Then place the Color 2 4-7/8" square atop the top left corner of the unit you just made, right sides together. Mark
the diagonal line and sew ON that line. Again cut off the excess seam allowance and press
the remaining seam allowance towards the triangle. Do the same with a Color 1 4-7/8" square on the opposing corner... |
This is the little bit tricky
part! Place one of the teeny Color 2 triangles atop the base of the trunk AS
SHOWN...1/4" overlapping the seam lines. Sew ON the trunk line from a point 1/4"
from the point of the triangle to a point 1/4" from the base of the triangle. Now
flip the triangle back towards the block edge, turn under the spare 1/4" on the
bottom and top of the triangle and invisible stitch it down. Repeat this with the other
small triangle to make the root tops. If necessary square this block back to a 8-1/2"
square... |
Now we start to piece the
block...in this order, referring to the diagram at left. Piece rows one, two and three... |
Then sew them together as shown
above. Set this aside for now... |
And piece row four as
shown... |
Sew row four to the TOP of the
"tree trunk" unit...Set this aside too! |
...While you piece rows five
through eight, again, referring to the diagram at left...on to Page
3! |
