** Preparing
the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |
Start by cutting your Color 1
2-1/2" x 15" strip into six 2-1/2" squares, for the
single whole squares within the leafy tree top... |
Then cut the Color 1 2-1/2" x 21" strip into two rectangles 2-1/2" x 10-1/2"... |
Next cut the Color 1 2-1/2" x 9" strip into two rectangles 2-1/2" x 4-1/2"... |
Now cut the Color 1 5-3/8" x 10-3/4" strip into two 5-3/8" squares... |
Then cut the Color 1 5-3/4" x 20-1/8" rectangle into 14 2-7/8" squares... |
To make the 28 half squares,
stack one 2-7/8" print square atop a Color 1 square of the same size, right
sides together. Mark the diagonal. Sew 1/4" away from the marked line on each
side
then cut on the marked line. This will give you two half squares. You can either use both
in the block, or use one and save the other for another project, depending on whether you
want each "leaf" different or not. Make a total of 28 half
squares... |
Let's start with the semi-tricky
part and get that out of the way first! Stack a Color 1 5-3/8" square atop the
lower left corner of the Color 2 8-1/2" square, right sides together. Mark the
diagonal in the direction shown, and sew ON this diagonal line. Cut off excess seam
allowance. Press remaining seam allowance towards triangle. Repeat with another square on
the opposing corner......on to Page
