The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Star of the East! You will need to print out four copies of each of the two units needed per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. A Fat Quarter of each fabric should be plenty!

After you have the units all paper pieced, join them as shown at left. Start at the top right open seam, and sewing from the outside in, using a 1/4" seam, sew to the exact pivot point of the three triangle intersection. Stop with needle still down in fabrics, turn fabrics to re-align, and continue sewing to the center. Now add the next section to the right in the same manner, and continue adding pieces clockwise until it is all together. Press all seam allowances clockwise , clipping seam allowances in center as needed to have them lay flat...

This quilt would actually measure about 35" x 42"... just imagine it as a queen size! Awesome quilt!!

Happy Quilting!!
