Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |

Start by cutting the Color 1 and Color 2 2" x 16"
strips into eight 2" squares each...
|
|
|
Now cut the Color 3 2" x 16" strip into eight
2" squares, and the Color 3 4" x 14" strip into
eight 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles...
|
|
|
Now, using the templates provided, cut four trapezoids
from the Color 1 8" x 9" strip, two longer
shapes from the Color 2 7" x 11"strip, and
right triangles from the Color 3 5" x 10" strip,
paying attention to the grain line in all cases... |

To make the flying geese
units, place a Color 2 small square right sides together atop the
left end of a Color 3 rectangle, with edges aligned. On the back
of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew ON this diagonal
marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder
towards the center. Repeat this with another Color 2 square on the
other end of the rectangle. Make four Flying Geese units like
this, and four more using Color 1 squares...now
