This makes a 12" block and is paper pieced!

I had fun doing this 1889 pattern in thoroughly modern fabrics!

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Manila Quilt Design! You will need to print out four copies of the template A page, and one copy of the other two pages per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. Fat Quarters should be plenty-maybe a tad more yellow...

After your units are all paper pieced, join the center block units as shown at left. Mark a dot on all four corners on the 1/4" sewing line-shown below...

Sew the pairs of outside strips together. Mark a dot on the  sewing line on the outer bottom corners of each.  Matching the corner dots, sew the outer strips to the center square, stopping at starting at the dots...

Fold the block right sides together, and starting at the corner dots where you previously stopped sewing, stitch from the dot out to the edge of the square. Do this for each of the four corners, and this block's done! ...on to Page 2!
