The first thing that I would
recommend that you do, is go to the Practice
Paper Piecing Page. When you feel comfy with paper
piecing, come on back and try a Japanese Poppy! You will need to print out
one copy of each template page per block you want to make on very
lightweight paper. This uses four different shades of RED( Main
flower, corners, tips, and background petals), some
white and a yellow. Fat Quarters will be fine for this! |
|
|
Now speed piece the half squares by stacking a
background white and a red 2 7/8" x 5 3/4" strips,
right sides together, marking the 2-7/8" square line, marking the
diagonals in the directions shown at left, and then sewing 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the 2-7/8" square line. Cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and
cut apart on the square line as well. This will give you four half
squares. Press seams to darker side. These should measure 2-1/2"...

Now do your paper piecing, and sew the center units together as shown
at far left, pivoting the fabric at the center yellow as needed to sew
those seams. Then piece the block!
...on to Page
2!
