** Preparing the
Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |

First mark and cut the Color 1 2-1/2" x
10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares... |
|
|
Next mark and cut the Color 3 2-1/2" x
10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares... |
|
|
Now let's speed piece the half squares, by stacking
the Color 1 and Color 3 2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strips right sides together...and
the Color 2 and Color 3 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strips, also right sides
together. On the backs of the top strips, lightly mark the 2- 7/8" square
lines and mark
the diagonals as shown. Sew in a continuous seam 1/4" above and below
the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Cut apart on the square lines, and on
the marked diagonal lines. Press seam allowances towards the darker
fabrics. This will give you four of the first Color combo, and eight
of the second. These should measure 2-1/2" ... |

Then sew a Color 2/Color 3 half square to a Color
3 square, using the ever present 1/4" seam. Press seam allowance towards the
half square. Make four of these units... |
|
|
Next sew a Color1/Color3 half square to a
Color2/Color3 half square. Press seam towards the Color 2/Color3 half square. Make four of
these units... |

|
Sew the two previous units together to make the
corner squares of the block. Make four of these units...on to Page
2! |
