** Preparing the Pieces
and Sewing the Block ** |
Start by marking and cutting the Color 4 2-1/2" x 10"
strip into four 2-1/2" squares...
Now mark and cut the Color 2 2-1/2" x
5" strip into two 2-1/2" squares... |
Next mark and cut the Color 1 and Color 2 2-7/8" x
5-3/4" strips into two 2-7/8" squares of each. Stack these
and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles
of each. Mark and cut the Color 4 2-7/8" x 11-1/2"
strip into four 2-7/8" squares and also make half square
triangles from those...
Sew the Color 1 and Color 2 half square triangles together with
Color 4 half square triangles using a scant 1/4" seam. This will
give you four half squares in each color combination. Press seams to
darker sides, and trim to measure 2-1/2" if needed...
Now sew the two Color 3 1" x 21" strips to the Color
1 1-1/2" x 21" strip, along the long edges. Press to
the dark side. Mark and cut this into two 10-1/2" long
sections...
Then sew the Color 1 and Color 4 1-1/2" x 26" strips
together along one long edge. Press to darker side and cut apart into
four 6-1/2" intervals...
To make the block's center unit sew together the Color 4
2-1/2" squares and the Color 2/4 half squares. Make three
horizontal rows, pressing the top and bottom row seams to the outside,
and the middle row seams to the center. Join the rows to complete the
center...on to Page 2!
