Place a Color 5 small square right sides together on one end of a
Color 1 rectangle, and in the same manner as the step above, drawn the
diagonal, sew on that line, and cut off the excess. Repeat this with a
Color 3 square on the other end of the rectangle, sewing in the same
direction. Make four each of the two unit orientations shown at
left...
Sew the remaining four Color 5 squares right sides
together to the ends of the four Color 4 rectangles, using the
standard 1/4" seams. Press seams to darker side...
Now sew two of the Color 1 units, opposing directions, to each side of
each Color 4 rectangle unit. Make four units like this, pressing seams
towards the centers. Trim these units to measure 3-1/2" if
needed...
Using that same squares on the corners method, sew the
last four Color 3 squares to the corners of the Color 5
3-1/2" square. This should measure 3-1/2"...
Now lay out all the units. Sew three horizontal rows,
pressing the seams of the top and bottom rows to the center, and the
middle row seam to the outside. Join the three rows and you are
done!
