** Preparing the Pieces **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  6" x 7" rectangle into eight 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" rectangles...

Then mark and cut the Color 3  3" x 12" strip into sixteen 1-1/2" squares...

Now mark and cut the Color 4  1-1/2" x 10" strip into four 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangles...

Then mark and cut the Color 5  3" x 9" strip into twelve 1-1/2" squares...now...

**  Let's Get to the Sewing **

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 2 and Color 5  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 3-7/8" square line and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square line. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 3-7/8" square lines. This will give you four half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 3-1/2" ...

Place a small Color 3 square right sides together lined up with the lower right (Color 2) edge of a half square. Draw in the diagonal on the back of the square and sew ON this line. Cut off the excess seam allowance, pressing the remainder towards the Color 2 section. These should measure 3-1/2"...on to Page 2!
