The first thing that I would
recommend that you do, is go to the
Practice
Paper Piecing Page. When you feel comfy with paper
piecing, come on back and try a Double Chain Block! You will need to print out
two copies of the template A page and one copy of the template B
page per block you want to make on very
lightweight paper. Fat Quarters should be plenty! |

** Preparing the Pieces
and Sewing the Block ** |
Start by marking and cutting the Color 1 2" x 20"
strip into four 2" x 5" rectangles...
Mark and cut the Color 2 2" x 4" strip
into two 2" squares... |
Sew two Color 2 2" squares to the end of two
rectangles, using a scant 1/4" seam. Press seams towards the
darker fabric...
Now paper piece all your units. To sew the upper left and lower right
block corners, piece together the three strip units shown at top left.
Sew a Color 1 rectangle to the right side, again using a scant
1/4" seam. Press seam towards the rectangle. Sew a
rectangle-plus-square to the bottom, again pressing seam towards the
rectangle. Make two units like this...
To make the block's adjacent corners, sew together two opposing paper
pieced chain units. Press seam to one side...
...on to Page 2!
