This makes a 14" block, and is part paper piecing, part regular piecing!

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try the Arkansas Block! You will need to print out four copies of the square in square unit, four copies of the four stripe unit, and eight copies of the remaining unit needed per block you want to make on very lightweight paper.
In addition to the paper pieced units, you will need to mark and cut four Color 1- 2 1/2" x 10-1/2" rectangles...

Then also mark and cut a Color 2  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares, a Color 3  2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares, and one Color 1  2-1/2" square...

Using the pieces we just cut, and the paper pieced units, make the block's center as shown at left. Use all SCANT 1/4" seams, and alternate pressing directions with each addition...

Sew a Color 1 rectangle to each side of the center unit...

Then sew a Color 3 square to each end of the remaining two Color 1 rectangles, and sew these strips to the block's top and bottom...and that's the Block!...on to Page 2!
