** Preparing the
Pieces and Sewing the Block **
Again, since there are many pieces, print off
several copies of the templates. Darken the outlines for each piece you will need ...cut
out ...add the 1/4" seam allowances. Dotted lines on the templates show pieces that
are underneath other pieces. I didn't list it as a needed color, but you will also need an
8-1/2" to 9" square of white background fabric! You'll also need some cream
embroidery floss ( a color that matches the light part of the Cache Cow© to embroider the
cow's eyelashes :o)
Follow the directions below for order of placement
:o) |

|
On an 8 1/2"-9" square of white background
fabric, lay out ALL the pieces, so that you can arrange them where you like them best.
Remove all but the cow's...um...butt, her face, chest/leg, her belly and her foot , pin
them in place, and appliqué them to the background, using thread to match the pieces being
sewn on... |
|
|
Now pin on her foreleg piece and the milk pail, and
appliqué them in place, using thread to match ... |
|
|
Then pin on the quilt, after you have decided how
you want it to look, piecing the edges of it with random calicoes, and pin on the stool
top and left leg, and appliqué them in place, using thread to match ... Remember...it's okay for you to make your quilt a more Christmassy one if
you chose to... |
|
|
Next add the woman's skirt, and place the right stool
leg over the jutting edge of the skirt piece; appliqué them in place, using thread
to match. You will have to fold the skirt side where it touches the stool top so that they
meet up.... |
|
|
Now add the woman's shirt, and appliqué
it in place,
using thread to match ... |
|
|
Next add the woman's head, and appliqué
it in place,
using thread to match ... |
|
|
Now add bows to the ends of her braids...the left
one will overlap the right one. Then, using cream colored floss, embroider the cow's
eyelashes using a backstitch and then embroider "The Cache Cow" on the
Quilt, again in backstitch...That's all for this one! Great Job Folks!!
Here's
one that Nancy made!
