Flying Four Patch - Page 2

To make the flying geese units, place a Color 3 square right sides together atop a Color 1 rectangle, with edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew on this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the center. Repeat this with another Color 3 square on the other end of the rectangle. Make eight units like this...

Sew pairs of geese together as shown at left. Make four units like this...

Now stack the Color 1 and Color 2  5-1/4" squares right sides together. on the back of the top square draw in the diagonal as shown at left. Sew 1/4" away on each side of the drawn line. Using a ruler and rotary cutter cut this in half on the opposite diagonal from the way you sewed. This will give you four quarter square triangles. You only need two for each block. Sew a pair together to make the block's center. Trim to measure 4-1/2" if needed...

Now lay out all the block's units as shown at left. Stitch three horizontal rows using a scant 1/4" seam. Press the top and bottom row seam allowances to the outside, and the middle row seams to the center. Join the rows and it's all done! Good Job!!
