This makes a 12" block !

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

 

Mark and cut the Color 1  1-1/2" x 18" strip into four1-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles. Then mark and cut the Color 1 1-1/2" x 14" strip into four 1-1/2" x  3-1/2"rectangles...

 

 

Next mark and cut the Color 1  5" x 18" strip into eight 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles...

 

 

Mark and cut the Color  3  5" x 20" strip into sixteen 2-1/2" squares...

Now sew the Color 2 and Color 3  2" x 16" strips right sides together along one long edge in a scant 1/4" seam allowance. press to the dark side. Mark and cut this at 2" intervals to get eight pieced units...

Still using a scant 1/4" seam allowance sew pairs of pieced units together as shown at left to make four Four Patches...

 

Sew a short Color 1 rectangle to the right of two Four Patches, and a longer Color 1 small rectangle to the bottom. Sew to more units like this with the short Color 1 rectangle sewn to the left side instead...on to Page 2!
