** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  3-7/8" x 15-1/2" strip into four 3-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles...

 

Then mark and cut the Color 7  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strip into two 3-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...

 

Next cut the Colors 2, 4, 6 and 7   4-1/4" squares in half on both diagonals to get four quarter square triangles from each of the first three colors, and twelve of Color 7...

 

 Sew the quarter square triangles together in pairs as shown at left, making four of each color arrangement. Use a 1/4" seam allowance, as you will throughout the block, and press seams to the darker side...

 

Sew the Color 6 quarter square triangle pairs to a Color 1 half square triangle. Make four units like this. Sew the Color 4 quarter square triangle pairs to a Color 1 half square triangle. Make four units like this. Sew the Color 2 quarter square triangle pairs to a Color 7 half square triangle. Make four units like this...on to Page 2!
