A Gaggle of Pinwheels - Page 2

Now sew the Color 6, and Color 4 units we just made in the step above together in pairs, making two units of each...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 3 and Color 7  2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-3/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 2-3/8" square lines. This will give you eight half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2". Repeat this with a Color 5 and Color 7 strip set to get eight more half squares in that color arrangement...

Now sew the half squares together to make small pinwheel blocks, two of each color arrangement...

Next, sew the Color 2 quarter square triangle units together to make the block's center unit...

Now lay out the block's units as shown at left. Sew them together into three horizontal rows. Join the rows, and it's done! Congratulations!! ...on to Page 3!
