Next we'll make the block's lower left-hand unit. Sew a Color 1 and
Color 3 medium half square triangle right sides together with a 1/4" seam. Press seam to darker side. These
should measure 4-1/2". Next, place a Color 1 square right sides together against
one corner of a Color 3 square. Mark the diagonal on the back of the
small square and sew on this line. Cut off the excess seam allowance,
pressing the remainder towards the corner triangle. Make two units
like that...
|
|
Now sew a Color 3 quarter square triangle to each
side of the pentagon unit, pressing seams towards triangles. Add a
Color 1 medium half square triangle to this pieced unit.
Piece these four units as shown in the illustration above... |
|
|
Using the half square units and the extra Color 1 sm. half square
triangles, make each of the units shown at far left. Join each of
those units together, and sew on a Color 3 large half square triangle.
This will be the block's upper left unit...

Using more half squares, and the Color 1 small squares, and extra
Color 1sm. half square triangles, make each of the units shown at far
left. Join each of those units together, and sew on a Color 3 large
half square triangle. This will be the block's right-hand unit...
|
|
|
Now piece the tree by sewing the two left-hand units together, then
adding the right-hand unit!...on to Page 3!
