** Preparing the Pieces
and Sewing the Block ** |
Start by marking and cutting the Color 1 2" x 8" strip
into four 2" squares...
Next mark and cut the Color 7 8" x 12" rectangle into
twenty-four 2" squares...
Next cut the Color 1, 2 & 3 2" x 14" strips
into four 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles of each...
Following the illustration at top left we'll
speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 6 and Color
7 2-3/8" x 4-3/4 " strips, right sides together and
all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the
2-3/8" square line and mark the diagonals in the direction shown
at left. Sew 1/4" above and below the marked
diagonals, pivoting at the square line. Now cut apart ON the marked
diagonals, and on the 2-3/8" square lines. This will give you
four half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric.
These should measure 2". Repeat this with a
Color5 /Color 7 2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strip set... a Color2 /Color 7 2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strip
set... a Color 4
/ Color 7 2-3/8" x 14-1/4" strip seat, ...and a Color
3 / Color 7 2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strip set, to get
four, eight,
twelve and eight of those respectively...on to Page 2!
