To make the flying geese units, place a Color 2
square right sides together atop a Color 1 rectangle, with outer edges
aligned. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew
on this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the
remainder towards the corner. Repeat this with another Color 3 square
on the other end of the rectangle. Make four of these units. They
should measure 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" at this point...

Now sew the block's center unit by laying out the small Color 1
squares, the four flying geese units, and one of the Color 3
larger squares as shown at left. Sew these together into three
horizontal rows, using a 1/4" seam allowance. Press the top
and bottom row seams to the outside, and the middle row seam to the
center...

Then lay out all units as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows
again, pressing the top and bottom rows to the outside and middle row
to the center. Join the rows to complete your block!
