Here's one for Dawn in Michigan-- :o)

This makes a 16" block !

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1  5" x 37-1/2" strip into thirty 2-1/2" squares...

Now cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares...

Then cut the Color 3  2-1/2" x 25" strip into ten 2-1/2" squares...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 2 and Color 3  2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strips right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square line and mark the diagonal in the direction shown. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonal, pivoting at the square line. Cut apart ON the marked diagonal, and on the square line. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. This will give you two half squares. Repeat this same procedure with the Color 3 and Color 1  2-7/8" x 8-5/8" strips, and with the Color 1 and Color 2  2-7/8" x 8-5/8" strips. These should measure 2-1/2"..

Now piece the squares and half squares in the order shown at left. Alternate pressing directions with each addition, and be sure you are using good 1/4" seams. Make rows first, and then join the rows to make the block. To make eyes and a nose, I suggest sewing on some good buttons, or as an alternative, you could satin stitch the eyes using 3 strands of black embroidery floss. Make the nose to mouth line, and make the mouth either by machine zigzag at zero to one stitch length, or hand embroider using a backstitch...
