** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Cut the Color 1  7" x 14" strip into eight 3-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 3  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

Next cut the Color 2  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strip into two 3-7/8" squares. Stack those squares and cut once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...

Then cut the Color 3  3-1/2" x 26" strip into four 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

To make one flying geese unit, place a Color 1 square right sides together atop a Color 3 rectangle, with outer edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew on this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the corner. Repeat this with another Color 1 square on the other end of the rectangle. Make four of these...

Now stack the Color 1 and Color 3  4-1/4" squares. Cut on both diagonals to make four quarter square triangles of each...

Sew together pairs of Color1/Color 3 quarter square triangles using the standard 1/4" seam allowance. Press seam to darker side. Sew a Color 2 half square triangle to this pieced triangle. Press seam towards Color 2. This should measure 3-1/2". Sew four of those together to make the block's center unit...on to Page 2!
