This 18" (finished) Log Cabin Variation Block needs:

8 white 2-1/2" squares

5 blue 2-1/2" squares

1 red 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" strip

2 red 2-1/2" x 8-1/2" strips

2 red 2-1/2" x 10-1/2" strips

2 red 2-1/2" x 12-1/2" strips

6 red 2-1/2" x 14-1/2" strips

 Sew the center Nine Patch unit. Then starting with the shortest red strips, sew the first strip to the TOP of the Nine Patch. Continue to add strips, in order of length, working CLOCKWISE around the block.  For the final round, sew 14-1/2" strips to the left and right of the block. Add white squares to the ends of the remaining  two 14-1/2" strips and sew those to the top and bottom.  Done! :o)
