** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1  7-1/4" square in half once on the diagonal to make two half square triangles. You only need one for a block, so save the other for another time...

Now cut the Color 5  3" x 6" strip into two 3" squares. Stack these and cut them in half once on the diagonal to make four hale square triangles. You only need three for a block...

Next cut the Color 2 and Color 3  5-3/8" squares in half once on the diagonal to make two half square triangles of each...

Then speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 4 and Color 5  3" x 6" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 3" square line and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 3" square line. This will give you four half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2-5/8"...

Using the half square units we just made and the three Color 5 half square triangles, make one of the units shown at left. Use scant 1/4" seams...on to Page 2!
