** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by sewing a Color 1 and Color 2  1-1/2" x 24" strip right sides together along one long edge, using a 1/4" seam. Press seam allowance towards the darker fabric. Make two of these. Sew them together...

Then mark and cut that unit at 1-1/2" intervals to make sixteen four square strips...

Invert every other one and sew them right sides together, alternating pressing directions. Make four of the units shown at left...

Now speed piece the half squares, by stacking two Color 2  2-7/8" x 14-3/8" strips right sides together. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the  2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals. Sew 1/4" above and below these marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Cut apart on the marked diagonals and on the square lines to make ten half squares. Press seam allowances to one side. Repeat this procedure with the other Color 2  2-7/8" x 14-3/8" strip and the Color 1 strip of the same size. Press these seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2-1/2"...

Sew one of the first half square units to one of the second. Make ten of this unit. Sew them together to make the corner and center four patch units...on to Page 2!
