Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |

Start by cutting the Color 2 2-1/2" x 10" strip
into four 2-1/2" squares. Next cut the Color 2 3-1/4" square
in half along both diagonals to make four quarter square
triangles... |

Next cut the Color 3 3-1/4" square in half
along both diagonals to make four quarter square triangles... |

Then cut the Color 4 3-1/4" x 6-1/2" strip
into two 3-1/4" squares. Stack those and cut in half along both
diagonals to make eight quarter square triangles. Now cut the Color
4 2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares... |

Speed piece the Half
Square units, by stacking a Color 1 and Color 4 2-7/8" x
11-1/2" strips right sides together and all edges aligned. On
the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square
lines. Draw in the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew
1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at
the square lines. Cut apart on the square lines, and on the marked
diagonals between the rows of stitching. This will give you eight
Half Squares. Press seams towards darker fabric. These should
measure 2-1/2"... |

To make the
Quarter Squares, use a 1/4" seam to join together a Color 2
and Color 2 quarter square triangle. Make four of these. Then make
four more using Color 3 and Color 4 quarter square triangles. Press
seams to the darker sides. Sew these pieced triangles together to
give you four Quarter Squares. These should measure 2-1/2"...on
to Page 2! |
