Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |
|
|
Start by speed piecing the half
squares. Stack the Color 1 and Color 2 3-7/8" x 7-3/4"
strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the
top strip, lightly mark the 3-7/8" square line and mark the
diagonals in the direction shown at left. Sew 1/4"
above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square line. Now
cut apart on the marked diagonals, and on the 3-7/8" square line.
This will give you four half squares. Press seam allowances towards
the darker fabric. These should measure 3-1/2"... |
|
|
Then strip piece the
center side units, by sewing a Color 2 1-1/2" x 14" strip to a Color 1 1-1/2" x 14"
strip , right sides together, along one long edge. Press seam allowance
towards the darker fabrics. Add another Color 1 strip to the bottom of
this. Press seam
towards the darker fabric. Cut into 3-1/2" sections... |
|
|
Now you can piece the
block, by first making rows, and then joining the rows to make a block. Alternate pressing
directions by row! ...on to Page 2! |
