** Preparing the Pieces
and Sewing the Block ** |
First mark and cut
the Color 1 and Color 2 3-1/2" x 14" strips into four
3-1/2" squares of Color 1 and eight of Color 2... |
Now stack the Color 1 and Color
2 3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strips right sides together and
all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip lightly draw in the
3-7/8" square line, then mark in the diagonals as well. Sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals. Cut apart on
the square line and on the marked diagonals between the rows of
stitching. This will give you four half squares. Press seams towards
darker fabrics. These should measure 3-1/2" square... |
Now just piece the block, by
sewing together four rows as shown at left, using the units we just
made. Press seams in alternating directions by row to keep your
seams lying nice and flat!
