Here's number three in the Days of Christmas Series! DH Joe said I should put  'lil French maid's aprons on the hens   :o) ...and you know what...for my OWN quilt, I would add one! :o)

This is an original pattern. Please abide by the Terms and Conditions of use! :o)

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

I suggest for this one, since there are more pieces, that you print of several copies of the templates. Darken the outlines for each piece you will need...cut out...add the 1/4" seam allowances. Dotted lines on the templates show pieces that are underneath other pieces. I didn't list it as a needed color, but you will also need an 8 1/2-9" square of white background fabric!  If you prefer, you could embroider the hens legs, using orange floss and a satin stitch...

Follow the directions below for order of placement :o)

On an 8 1/2"-9" square of white background fabric, lay out ALL the pieces, so that you can arrange them where you like them best. Remove all but the grass unit and the feet, pin them in place, and appliqué them to the background, using thread to match the pieces being sewn on...

Next pin on the rooster's tail, and appliqué them in place, using thread to match ...

Then pin on the rooster's body, and appliqué it in place, using thread to match ...

Now pin on the red hen's body, and appliqué it in place, using thread to match ...

Next pin on the red hen's wing, and appliqué it in place, using thread to match ...

Then pin on the brown hen's body, and appliqué it in place, using thread to match ...

Next pin on the brown hen's wing, and appliqué it in place, using thread to match ...

Now pin on the three heads, tucking the beaks underneath in the right spot, and appliqué them in place using thread to match. Embroider eyes using a satin stitch and black floss...and there you go! :o)

Here's one that Nancy made!   Linda's!

Terry's!

Now...I am going to do something different, and NOT show a quilt of this yet

...I have in mind doing all Twelve Days of Christmas!

Stay Tuned! :o)

in the meantime...Happy Quilting!
