** Preparing the
Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |
|
|
Start by marking and cutting the
Color 1 4-1/2" x 18" strip into four 4-1/2" squares. Next mark and cut the Color 1 4-7/8"
x 9-3/4" strip into two 4 7/8" squares. Stack these
latter, and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square
triangles... |
|
|
Make two copies of the center
template and butt them end to end. Tape them together, and use them
to cut the center Color 1 strip from a 11" square of fabric... |
|
|
Now mark and cut the Color
4 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four 2-7/8"
squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal... |
|
|
Then cut the Color 4 6-7/8" square in half once on the diagonal...
|
|
|
To speed piece the half squares,
stack the Color 4 and Color 2 2-7/8" x
23" strips right sides together and all edges aligned. On the
back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines, then
draw in the diagonals as shown at left. Now sew a 1/4"
above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines.
Cut apart on the square lines, and on the diagonal lines between the
rows of stitching. this will give you sixteen Color 2 /Color 4 half
squares. Press seams towards the darker fabrics. Repeat this
same procedure with the Color 4 and Color 3 2-7/8"
x 17-1/4" strips to get twelve half squares in that Color
arrangement. These should measure 2-1/2"...on to Page
