** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Cut the Color 1  2" x 14" strip into four 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles. Cut the Color 1  4" x 8" strip into eight 2" squares...

Next cut the Color 2  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 2  2" x 14" strip into four 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles.

Now, to make one flying geese unit, place a Color 1 small square right sides together atop a Color 2 rectangle, with outer edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal as shown at far left. Sew ON this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the triangle. Repeat this with another Color 1 square on the other end of the rectangle. Make four geese in the same manner...

Sew a Color 1 rectangle to the bottom of each flying geese unit, pressing seam towards the Color 1 rectangle...

Now lay out all your units as shown at left, with the Color 1  3-1/2" square as the block's center. Sew three horizontal rows, pressing the top and bottom row seams to the outside and the middle seam to the center. Sew the rows together to finish the block!
