** Preparing the
Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |
|
|
Start by cutting the Color 1 5" x 15"
strip into twelve 2-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 1 5"
x 9" strip into four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles... |
|
|
Next cut the Color 2 5" x 15" strip
into twelve 2-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 2 5" x
9" strip into four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles... |
|
|
Next speed piece the half
squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2 2-7/8" x
11-1/2" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On
the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines
and mark the diagonals as shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting
at the square lines. Now cut apart on the marked diagonals, and on
the square lines. This will give you eight half squares.
Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should
measure 2-1/2"... |

To make the flying geese
units, place a Color 1
small square right sides together atop a Color 2 rectangle, as shown at
top left, with edges aligned. On the
back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew ON this line. Cut off
the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the triangle. Repeat this with
another Color 1 square on the other end of the rectangle. Make three
more geese like this. Now make four more geese units using
Color 1 rectangles and Color 2 squares. Trim these to measure
2-1/2" x 4-1/2" if needed...on to Page 2! |
