To make the first type of corner unit, sew a
Color 5 half square triangle to the bottom edge of a Color 4 square. Press seam towards
the triangle. Sew another Color 5 triangle to the right side of the same square. Press seam
towards the triangle. Now add a Color 1 large triangle. Press seam towards the large

To make the "Indian Hatchet" units,
stack a Color 5 small square atop the left top corner of a Color 2 square, right sides
together. Mark the diagonal on the back of the small square, and sew ON this line. Trim
off the excess seam allowance, pressing the remainder towards the small triangle. Repeat
this with another small square on the opposing corner. Make eight of these... |

Now piece the whole block, by joining the previously
made units, using the solitary Color 3 3-1/2" square as the block's center. Use
all 1/4" seams to piece the block, and press seams in alternating directions as
you go! |
