Here's an easy reworking of a circa 1930's
pattern...it makes a 12" block!
Please abide by the Terms
and Conditions of use! :o) |
This pattern was traditionally done with each
quarter having four trapezoids and an inset square.

** Preparing the Pieces and
Sewing the Block ** |
Start by marking and cutting the Color 1 5"
x 15" strip into twelve 2-1/2" squares... |
Then mark and cut the Color 2 5" x
15" strip into twelve 2-1/2" squares... |
Now cut the Color 3 2-1/2" x 10" strip
into four 2-1/2" squares... |
Next stack the Color 1 and Color 2 2-7/8" x
11-1/2" strips right sides together. ON the back of the top
strip lightly draw in the 2-7/8" square lines, then mark in the
diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4"
on each side of the diagonal lines, pivoting at the square lines.
Cut apart on the square lines and on the marked diagonals, between
the rows of stitching. This will give you eight half squares. Press
seams to darker sides. Trim these back to be 2-1/2" square if
needed... |
Piece four quarter blocks, using squares and half
squares, then sew two rows of two quarter blocks each, alternating
seam pressing directions by row. There's your block! ...on to Page
2! |
