Begin making the
first square by aligning a Color 2 square atop the corner of a large Color 1 square, right
sides together. Mark a diagonal line bisecting the Color 2 square, as shown, and sew on
this line...
|
|
You may then cut off the seam allowance, or you may leave it in place for
stability. Continue to add Color 2 squares to each corner of the Color 1 large square
in the same manner. Press all seams towards center square...(Make FOUR of these
center units for the whole Block!) |
|
|
Then add a 3-1/2" calico rectangle to your center unit, right sides together, sewing with
the standard scant 1/4" seam. Add another rectangle to the bottom of the center
unit. Press seams towards center...(You need FOUR of these for the entire
block, each using a different print!) |
|
|
Now to make the side
rows, align, right sides together, a Color 1 small square atop a calico 6-1/2" x
2" rectangle. Mark the diagonal, and sew on this line. |
|
Again, you may cut off the
excess seam allowance, or not, your choice! Press seam allowances towards
calico. Add
another Color 1 small square to the other end of the calico rectangle.
You need TWO
of these for each quarter Block... ( EIGHT for the entire Block, using different
calicoes) |
|
|
Now you can piece the
first quarter-block unit!. This is done in columns, as shown! Sew with a scant 1/4"
seam and
press seam allowances towards center column. Make FOUR of these units... |
|
|
Sew them four
units together to make one Kansas Dugout block!...on
