** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Sew together the Color 1 and Color 2  2-1/2" x 12-1/2"  strips as shown at left, using a scant 1/4" seam, and pressing seams to the darker side. Mark and cut this at 2-1/2" intervals...

Now sew together the Color 1 and Color 2  2-1/2" x 5" strips as shown at left, and again press to the dark sides. Mark at cut this at the 2-1/2" point...

Make the block's center unit by sewing together the strip units we just made using the same scant 1/4" seam allowance. Use three from the first set, and the two from the second set...

Mark and cut the Color 1 and Color 2  2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strips into two 2-7/8" squares of each. Stack the squares and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles of each...

Sew the half square triangles together in pairs as shown at left, using a scant 1/4" seam, and press seam to the dark side. Trim this back to measure 2-1/2" if needed. Make four units like this...on to Page 2!
