** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First mark and cut the Color 1 and Color 3   5" x 12-1/2" strip into two 2-1/2" x 12-1/2" strips of each. Then cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 17" strip into two 2-1/2" x 8-1/2" rectangles. Cut the Color 4  5" x 15" strip into twelve 2-1/2" squares...

Sew a Color 4   2-1/2" square to each end of a Color 2 strip, right sides together, and using, as always, a 1/4" seam. Press seam allowances towards the rectangle. Make two units like this. Place a Color 4 square right sides together atop left end of a Color 3 strip, with outer edges aligned. On the back of the top square lightly mark the diagonal. Sew on this diagonal marking. Cut off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the corner. Repeat this with another Color 4 square on the other end of the strip. Make two units like this, then two more using Color 3 strips and the remaining Color 4 squares...
