** Preparing the
Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |
Start by marking and cutting the Color 1 and Color
2 3-7/8" x 15-1/2" strips into four 3-7/8"
squares of each. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to
make eight half square triangles of each... |
Then mark and cut the Color 2 2-3/8" x
4-3/4" strip into two 2-3/8" squares. Stack these and cut
them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles... |
Sew the larger half square triangles right sides
together in pairs as shown at left, using a 1/4" seam.
Press seams to the darker sides. Trim these back to measure
3-1/2" if needed. Make eight units like this... |
Sew the four smaller half square triangles to
opposing sides of the Color 2 2-5/8" square, again using
a 1/4" seam allowance. Press seams towards the outer
triangles. Sew the last two half square triangles to the adjacent
sides, also pressing towards the triangles... |
Now lay out all the block's pieces as shown at left.
Sew three horizontal rows. Press the row seams in alternating
directions. Join the rows, and you are done! ...on to Page
