and Sewing the Block ** |

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1 5" x 15"
strip into twelve 2-1/2" squares. Mark and cut the Color 1
1-1/2" x 6" strip into four 1-1/2" squares. Mark and
cut the Color 1 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four
2-7/8" squares. Stack and cut those once on the diagonal to make
eight half square triangles...

Now mark and cut the Color 2 2-1/2" x 18" strip into
four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles. Mark and cut the
4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip into two 4-7/8" squares. Stack
and cut those squares once on the diagonal to make four half square
triangles. Also cut one whole Color 2 4-1/2" square for the
block's center...

Using either the regular piecing, or paper piecing templates provided,
make eight of the units shown at far left. Piece them together in
pairs for a total of four pairs...

|
Make the flying geese units by placing a Color 1 2-1/2"
square right sides together and outside edges aligned to a Color 2
rectangle. On the back of the top square draw in the diagonal in the
direction shown at left. Sew ON this drawn line. Cut off the excess
seam allowance, pressing the remainder towards the triangle. Repeat
with another Color 1 square on the other end. Make four units like
this. Trim these back to measure 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" if
needed...

Make the snowball unit using the same square-on-the-corner method as
explained above, using the small Color 1 squares and the 4-1/2"
Color 2 square...on to Page
