** Preparing the Pieces
and Sewing the Block ** |
Start by marking and cutting the Color 1
10" x 20" strip into thirty-two 2-1/2" squares...
Next mark and cut the Color 2 4-1/2" x 18" strip into
four 4-1/2" squares...
Then mark and cut the Color 3 4-1/2" x 18" strip into
four 4-1/2" squares. Also cut one Color 1 4-1/2
square
Now mark and cut the Color 3 5" x 27" strip into
twelve 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles...
Then mark and cut the Color 3 2-1/2"x 10" strip
into four 2-1/2" squares...
To make the square-in-square units place a Color 1 square right sides
to against the upper left corner of the Color 3 4-1/2"
square, with outside edges aligned. (I show them slightly staggered
here only so you can see what two pieces of fabric I am using) On the
back of the square draw the diagonal, and sew ON this drawn line. Cut
off the excess seam allowance, pressing the remainder towards the
triangle. Repeat this with another Color 1 square on the opposing
corner, and then two more squares on the last two corners. Make four
units like this...
Using the same squares-on-the-corners method we just used to make the
square-in-squares, now make flying geese units of the remaining Color
1 squares and the Color 3 rectangles. Make eight flying geese units...
