** Preparing the Pieces and
Sewing the Block ** |
Start by marking and cutting the
Color 3 2-1/2" x 18" strip into four 2-1/2" x
4-1/2" rectangles... |
Next mark and cut the Color
1 4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip into two 4-7/8" square.
Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half
square triangles... |
Then stack the Color 2 and Color
3 5-1/4" squares with all edges aligned. Cut these once
on the diagonal, then, without moving them, cut them on the other
diagonal as well, to get four quarter square triangles of each... |
Now sew pairs of Color 2 and
Color 3 quarter square triangles together as shown at left, using a
SCANT 1/4" seam. Press seam to darker side. To each of these ,
sew a Color 1 half square triangle. Press seam towards half square
triangle. Trim these back to 4-1/2" square if needed... |
Sew a Color 3 rectangle to the
left side of each of the previously made units, pressing seams
towards the darker side... |
Next, line up the Color 2
2-1/2" square with the bottom right edge of one of the pieced
units. Stitch in a scant 1/4" seam from the outer block edge in
as far as half way across the square. Backstitch and snip threads...
