This makes a 9" block and is from the 1930's! It's an Ohio Star version, with such an odd name!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First cut the Color 4  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

Next cut the Color 3  4-1/4" x 8-1/2" strip into two 4-1/4" squares. Stack these and cut them across each diagonal to get eight quarter square triangles. Also cut the Color 2 and Color 4 4-1/4" squares on both diagonals to get four quarter square triangles from each...

Sew the various quarter square triangles together using scant 1/4" seams to make four of the quarter squares shown at left. trim these to measure 3-1/2" if needed...

Now lay out all the units as shown at left with the Color 1 (I fussy cut mine)  3-1/2" square as the block's center. Sew three horizontal rows, pressing the top and bottom rows to the outside, and the middle row to the center. Join the rows and this block is done! Good Job Folks! :o)
