** Preparing the Pieces
and Sewing the Block ** |
First, from a navy print, ...stars work well... cut one 9-7/8"
half square triangle (from a 9-7/8" square cut in half once on
the diagonal)...
Next, cut thirteen 3-7/8" half square triangles from a variety of
tan/cream prints. It's okay to have some repeats within a block, but
the more different prints used, the merrier the block! Cut ten
3-7/8" half square triangles from a variety of red prints...
Sew pairs of red and tan half square triangles to make a total of ten
half squares. Use scant 1/4" seams, and press seams to the darker
side. Trim these back to measure 3-1/2" if needed...
Next, piece the block! Sew four vertical rows of half squares,
using the extra tan half square triangles at the top of the three
shortest rows. Sew these vertical rows together using a scant
1/4" seam, and then sew on the blue corner triangle to complete
the block! ...on to Page 2!
