** Preparing the Pieces
and Sewing the Block ** |
Start by cutting the Color 1 3-1/2" x
7" strip into two 3-1/2" squares...
Now cut the Color 2 and Color 3 2" x 8" strips
into four 2" squares of each...
Next cut the Color 4 5-1/8" x 10-1/4" strip into two
5-1/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to
make four half square triangles...
Sew Color 2 and Color 3 squares together using all scant 1/4"
seam allowances to make two four patch units as shown at left. Press
all seams to darker sides. Trim to measure 3-1/2" if needed...
Then sew the two four patch and two Color 1 squares together to make
the block's center unit...
Sew Color 4 half square triangles to opposing sides of the center
unit, and then to the two remaining open sides...and the block is all
done! Square off if needed, to measure 8-1/2", being sure to
leave the 1/4" seam allowance beyond the square tips!
