Next speed piece the half squares, by
stacking the Color 2 and Color 5 2-7/8" squares right sides
together in pairs with all edges aligned. On the back of the top
squares, lightly mark the diagonals as shown at left with a solid line
corner to corner. Now sew a scant 1/4" above and below the
marked diagonals. Cut apart ON the marked diagonals between the lines
of stitching. Each pair will give you two half squares. You need 16
half squares in
total. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim these
back to measure 2-1/2" if needed. Repeat this with the last four
Color 5 2-7/8" squares and the Color 3
2-7/8" squares to make 8 more half square units in that color
arrangement... |
|
|
Now use the triangles you cut using the regular
piecing templates to make four of the side units shown at
left-using a scant 1/4" seam now and throughout the block
making...or...*paper piece these four side units... |
|
|
Next sew together four pairs of Color 2/Color 5 half
squares, oriented as shown at left. Then add one pair to the
bottom of each side triangle unit... |
|
|
Now lay out your Color 3 2-1/2" squares,
remaining Color 2/Color 5 half squares, Color 4 squares, and Color
3/Color 5 half squares as shown at left. Sew these together to
make four corner units like this... |
|
|
Lay out all the units we have made as shown at left.
Sew three horizontal rows, alternating pressing directions by row.
Sew the rows together to finish your block!...on to Page
