This makes a 9" block !

This one is easy to resize by making the squares and rectangles proportionately larger!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Mark and cut the: Color 1  1-1/2" x 6" strip into four 1-1/2" squares... Color 2  1-1/2" x 12" strip into eight 1-1/2" squares... Color 3  1-1/2" x 12" strip into eight 1-1/2" squares... Color 4  3" x 15" strip into twenty 1-1/2" squares... Color 5  1-1/2" x 12" strip into eight 1-1/2" squares... and the Color 5  3" x 7" strip into four 1-1/2" x 3-1/2" rectangles

To sew the block's center, place a Color 4 square right sides together against one corner of the center Color 5 square, with outside edges aligned. On the back of the top square draw in the diagonal, and sew on this drawn line. Cut off the excess seam allowance, pressing the remainder towards the corner. Repeat this with the other three corners. Trim this to measure 5-1/2" if needed...

Now sew horizontal rows as shown at left, using a scant 1/4" seam allowance. Sew the four shorter pieced strips to the sides of the center unit, then add the upper and lower rows.
