Next sew together one Color 3 and one Color 4
1-1/2" x 15" strip along the long edges, in a scant
1/4" seam, as shown at left. Press seams towards darker fabric.
Mark and cut this at 1-1/2" intervals, yielding ten units. Sew
these together to make four patches as shown at lower left. Make
five units like this... |
Sew the Color 2 and Color 4 3-1/4"
quarter square triangles together in pairs as shown at left. Press
seams to dark sides. Make four units like this...
In the same manner, using the Color 3 and Color
4 4-1/4" quarter square triangles, make four each
of the units shown at left. Note*..the Color orientation is
different!... |
To each of the smaller quarter square units, sew
a Color 2 2-7/8" half square triangle, pressing seams
towards the half square triangle. Make four units like this in
total... |
Now lay out all the units shown at left. Sew these
together, first into three horizontal rows, pressing the top and
bottom row seams to the center, and the middle row seam to the
outside. Now join the rows to make the block's center unit...

Now sew a Color 1 half square triangle to the Color 3 pieced quarter square units, again pressing seam towards the half
square triangle. Make eight units like this. Join them in pairs as
shown at lower left... |
Finally! Lay out all the units as shown at left. Sew
side units to the left and right of the center unit, pressing seams
towards the outsides. Sew two rows as shown at top/bottom left,
pressing those seams to the center. Join the rows, and YOU'VE DONE
