** Preparing the
Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |
While each pattern in the past has
shown how to cut and piece each block singly...I am now going to introduce some speed
piecing. If you have been following the patterns as they came, you will delight in this
quicker way of doing things! |
First,
on the back side of your lighter 3-7/8" x 15-1/2" strip (Color 3 in this case)
lightly mark off at 3-7/8 increments. Next draw in the
3- 7/8" square lines, then draw a light diagonal mark from corner to corner
of each, changing the direction of the diagonal line in each subsequent
square. Lay the Color 3 strip atop a Color 1 strip, with edges
perfectly aligned. You will then sew 1/4" on either side of each diagonal line, as
shown...

Do the same with your Color
2 (and Color 1) 3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strips |
Cut these
apart on the solid diagonal lines, and on the square lines....there are your half
triangles! Trim these back to measure 3-1/2" if needed... |
Do the same with your Color 1 and Color 3
unit...
Now cut
your Color 2 3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...on
