Now place a small Color 3 square right sides together lined up
with one end of a longer Color 1 rectangle. On the back of the small
square drawn in the diagonal, and sew ON this drawn line. Cut off the
excess seam allowance and press the remainder towards the rectangle.
Make two units like each of those shown at left...
Following that same method sew small Color 1 and small Color 3 squares
to either end of the Color 2 long rectangles. Note that the seam
direction of each will be opposite each other for each unit made. Make
two of each of the units shown at left...
Sew small Color 1 squares to the Color 1 ends of the units we just
made in the last step, pressing seams towards the squares...
Now sew the small Color 1 rectangle units to the bottom of a
large Color 3 square, using the standard scant 1/4" seam, and
pressing seam towards the rectangle. Sew a longer Color 1
rectangle unit to the right of that, again pressing

towards the new addition. Sew a Color 2
rectangle unit to the right of that, and lastly, sew a Color 2 unit
w/square to the bottom of the whole thing. Make one more unit like
this... |

...and make two units using the reverse rectangle units...
Sew the four Color 2 3-1/2"squares to Color 3
3-1/2" squares , pressing seams towards the darker fabric...
Now piece the block! Lay out all the units as shown at left, with the
extra Color 1 square in the center. Sew three horizontal rows,
pressing row seams in alternating directions. Sew the rows
together....and you are done! .
