          | | ** Preparing the Pieces
and Sewing the Block **  |

          | |
			 | Start by marking and cutting the Color 1 and Color 2  2-1/2"
          x 9" strips into two 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles of
          each... |

          | |
			 | Then mark and cut the Color 3  2-1/2" x 12-1/2" strip
          into five 2-1/2" squares... |

          | |
			 | Now we'll speed piece the half squares. Starting at the top
left, stack the Color 1 and Color 3  2
7/8" x 5-3/4" strips, right sides together and all edges
aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2 7/8"
square line and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now
sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals,
pivoting at the square line. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals,
and on the 2 7/8" square line. This will give you four half
squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim these
back to measure 2-1/2" if needed. Repeat this with a Color
2/Color 3 pair of strips, and with a Color 1, Color 2 pair of strips
to get four in each of those color combinations as well... |

          | |
			 | Now lay out all your pieced and/or cut units as shown at left. Sew
together the four corner sub-units, then sew horizontal rows, using the standard scant 1/4"
seam, and pressing in alternating directions by row. Join the rows,
and you are done!   ...on to Page 2! |
